Walter joined the Army right after high school. This picture is of Walter and Dennis Korkowski, taken at New Jersey, before Walter was shipped out to Germany.  Walter was stationed in Germany for one year.   When he returned from the service he went to Alex Tech for two years, under the GI Bill, and took up farm management. He started farming in 1965, milked 50 cows and raised hogs.  After farming he went to work for MnDot, in Alexandria MN, until his retirement in 2002.  In 2006, Walter and Gloria built a house in Brandon where they now live.

 

Walter and Gloria were married in 1962.
They have seven children,
twenty two grandchildren
and five great grandchildren.

 

 

 

The whole family was home to celebrate  their

 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2012.

 

 

 

  

 Walter still has a 70 acre hobby farm, near Millerville, where he mostly raises corn and beans for the deer and pheasants.   He goes fishing often with Bill Suchy.

After school I worked at the Armour Packing House in South St. Paul for five years. The next thirty-four years I spent working for John A. Dalsin & Son Inc.,  which is a roofing and sheet metal company. The last seventeen years I was the head superintendent of the company.

 

 

Our family picture was taken at the 100th birthday party for Lorraine's mother, Helen Gergin. Helen is sitting in the middle.

 

We have five boys and eleven grandchildren. We built a home on Lake Aaron in 1982 and retired there in 1995. Have done lots of golfing over the years, but have hung that up. 

 

Still go hunting and fishing. 

 Evidence of this are the mounts in our house.

Bill makes 160 lbs of pork and beef sausage every year.

  He also makes head cheese and blood sausage.

 

Shot this turkey in April of 2013.   He weighted 21 pounds and 4 ounces with an 8 1/2 inch beard and 3/4 inch spurs. 

 

 

There are only six states that Bill has not been to yet.  They have traveled to Europe twice.

"My sister from Texas came home to visit Mom when she turned 50 so we had a surprise party for her and dressed up like 'old people' (some of us already are!).  Her birthday is October 28th so we included our Halloween traditions while growing up of stringing up doughnuts in the doorways and having a race to see who could eat theirs the fastest and dunking for apples in the old bread pan filled with water.  It was a blast.  As you can see some of the costumes were hilarious!"                    --Jeanne Kramer

I’m living in Little Canada, Minnesota, where I have been since 1956 following my marriage to Bernie Nadeau.  Bernie passed away in April of 2008. 

We were fortunate to have 51 years together and parented six children:  Mark—1957, Mona—1959, Therese—1962, Paul—1964, Christopher—1966 and Jessica—1984.  All except Paul live in the Twin Cities area—he lives in Austin, Texas.  I have ten grandkids ranging in age from 29 to 11.  John is in California, Portia, Tony, Tyler, Frasier and Allison are in Minnesota.  Jamie, Garrett and Sydney are in Texas.  Eli passed away in 2005 at the age of fourteen.

After our marriage, I was employed by MNDOT as a clerk-typist until Mark was born.  I was a stay-at-home mom until Christopher started school, then worked as a T.A. at 916 School District (special education) for twelve years until Jessica’s arrival.  When she reached school age, I worked for Roseville Schools as a T.A. (K – 6) until retiring in 2000.  Bernie had been retired from Ellerbe Becket Architects (34 years) since 1994, so this gave us the opportunity to spend time in Texas.  We pulled a 5^th wheel and wintered in McAllen (Rio Grande Valley) for five years. 
 

Since Bernie’s passing, I’m kept busy with family and “holding down the fort”.  My neighborhood is ever-changing and I have given some thought to moving, but haven’t found quite what I want.  I’m active in my church—Saint John’s Catholic Church in Little Canada, do some volunteering at Loaves and Fishes and Saint John’s Hospital and belong to various clubs (senior, card, TOPS, WOW and health).  I travel to Austin, Texas most winters for several weeks and I went on an Alaskan cruise/land tour in 2009. 
 

As many of you have, I too had the big “C” experience.  I had surgery for colon cancer in 2011.  Prognosis was quite good—so opted out of chemo.  Oncologist visits every three months with annual colonoscopies (UGH!) / scans are part of my life at this time.  So far, so good!!
 

Since September of 2012, I’ve been seeing Jim Wagner (from good Millerville stock)!  It’s been fun—remembering and reminiscing (and disagreeing) about our growing-up years!  We enjoy playing cards, traveling (Texas in February and California in May) and visits with family and friends.  From experience, we have learned how fragile life can be and we treasure each day as a gift from God.

After High School I joined the Navy retiring in 1975.  I then joined an Engineering Company in Connecticut as the Comptroller and spent 14 years with them.  I then took a job in New Jersey as Vice President of Contracts, Administration and Treasurer, spending 10 years with them.  I then took a job as Vice President, Finance, Contracts and Administration retiring in 2006 as their Chief Operating Officer.

 

I still do consulting work for a couple of companies when it fits my schedule.

 

 

I lost my wife, Edith in January 2009 after 43.5 years of marriage.  We did not have any children.

 

Last fall, I started going to Fort Myers, Florida in the winter.  I plan on going this year from October until May.  Also making a few trips back to New Jersey.

I retired in June 2006 after 25 years at Todd County Public Works; 2 years as City Engineer, Morris; 7 years as Instructor at Dunwoody Institute and 13 years with the City of Saint Louis Park.

I fill lots of days at casino tables, “teaching” eight grandkids and doing lots of nothing so it seems between fishing, hunting and all the things I don’t like doing!

I do like seeing and visiting with old classmates and friends, traveling more by car but also overseas trips and a cruise here and there.

George & Joan (Pischke) Hockert

After graduation I joined the military.  I spent two years active duty in the states.  I joined the Army Reserve and retired after 36 years.

On June 10, 1961, I married Joan Pischke.  We are the parents of four wonderful children, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Pam is the director of Sunrise Village, a senior and assisted living retirement home in Willmar and is married to Brian Freese, who is employed by Kandiyohi County.  They live in Willmar, Minnesota and have three daughters:  Carlie—22, Becca—20, both in college, and Allison—16.  All three girls are hockey players.   

 

Cindy has been teaching 6^th grade in Mankato for 25 years.  Her son Blake—20 is a student at the University of Mankato.  He loves all sports. 

 

Sandy is employed at Donaldson Co. and lives in Apple Valley, Minnesota.  She has three daughters.  Ariel—22, who has two sons, aged four and ten months old.  Ariel is a Para in the Bloomington School District.  Gabby—20, is a student at the University of Minnesota.  MacKenzie—14, is in the 8^th grade.

 

George, Jr. is married to Rachelle and they live in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.  They are both in the insurance business.  No children, just two dogs that think they are human.  George is also retired from the Army Reserve.

 

 

 

I began my career at Korkowski Implement in Brandon.  After many years in the trucking business as a parts manager, shop foreman, truck sales and leasing department, I retired in 2007.  Joan said, “She had twice the husband for only half the money,” so she chased me out to get a job (ha!).  I work for Enterprise Car Rental and Leasing in my retirement along with other husbands that found themselves with time on their hands.  We deliver vehicles in-state and out-of-state to dealerships and leasing companies.  I enjoy the men I work with and have made new friendships and there is never a dull moment. 

 

After moving from Mankato we bought a lot in Oakdale and had a home built in 1994.  We still live there.  This is the longest we’ve ever lived in a home: having lived in Brandon, Alexandria, Wadena, Rapid City, Willmar and Mankato.

 

 



 

 



Special events include the birth of our children and grandchildren, traveling out of the country, watching all four of our children graduate from college and celebrating our 50^th wedding anniversary. 

 

I am a cancer survivor after having cancer at age 30 and again in 2007.  We are thankful for many blessings and fond memories.  We try to spend some time in Arizona each winter to warm “them old bones”.  We are busy attending grandchildren events and catching up with old friends that are also retired. 

 

Joan retired in 2006 after 31 years as a Para in Special Education. 

 

Life is good!
